I just picked up an external monitor for my beloved early-2011 13" MacBook ... it was a long time coming. Admittedly, however, I'm not in love with the picture quality of the new display. Next to my MacBook, the colors are washed out and everything is not nearly as sharp. I know some of that has to do with pixel density. This display is a 1080p 21.5" IPS, like the iMac. But, the iMac I find a lot more vibrant. Is there any external display on the market exactly like the 21.5" iMac?

Could you provide more info? Like brand and model.

Did you try calibrating it? I found that calibrating any monitor (if you do it well) can make a huuuge difference.

I'd suggest switching it from a VGA cable to DVI.

In looking at BB's site, there were several others in the same price range that might be better choices. The Samsung 21.5" has HDMI input, which will give a slightly better image than VGA or DVI.

I found a 23" Apple Cinema Display on Craigslist and have been very happy with the image quality. There are some bargains out there if you look.

Mm... Pardon the naive question.
Would a Apple Cinema display work with my 2014 rMBP? Frequently see ACD's on CraigsList in Toronto.

Switching from VGA to DVI made the difference I was hoping for. I now like this display quite a bit.
