Is it right the new iMac with M4 can support external monitors with thunderbolt cables ?

I have a iMac M1 which doesn't support this and might just upgrade to have the ability to run an external monitor

Does anyone know how this works and what cable is required. Can you use thunderbolt 4/5 or USB-C to display port or HDMI ?

Thanks

Yes, but your M1 iMac is capable of running an external display as well. You can use a Thunderbolt cable, USB-C to DisplayPort, or other adapters for HDMI, DVI, VGA.

You can connect two displays - but the actual connection is the same, for all practical purposes. Thunderbolt, USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort - same adapters, etc will work equally well on both models.

I am seeing more setups now with Apple Silicon iMacs pushing external monitors. It looks like the newest M4s will be even more useful for this purpose. I have no need for an M4. But I will admit the new camera, and the nano texture option, are making me think about it....
