When I open the Mail App on the iMac - all my messages are marked as "read" in my Yahoo Plus mail a/c (and on my iPhone). This happens even if I do not open/read the msgs on the iMac mail app. Does anyone know why this happens and how to stop them from being marked as "read"... thanks!

Could it be POP?

I don't really use Yahoo! Mail, but I do know that it uses the POP3 protocol for desktop clients to connect to. I think you have a setting that makes it so that when Apple Mail downloads the email, Yahoo! will say that it's read on the server.

When I used POP on my Gmail account, it would archive it for me, even if I didn't actually read the mail on my Email client. Now that I use Gmail's IMAP service, it all sync up nicely.

That's my best guess... :D

Thanks - I have heard that as well - not sure if Yahoo has an option to use IMAP but I will check....

Last I checked (a while ago) they did not offer IMAP and were charging for POP forwarding. I stopped using Yahoo! when they implemented the charge for POP years ago.
