Hello i have a 24in imac 2.4 ghz late 2007 model i believe running snow leopard with 2 gigs of ram. Just deiced to replace the hard drive with a 1tb Seagate Barracuda. The install went fine and everything was working just fine for about 4 days. I usually put my imac to sleep at night and don't shut it down. Last night about 4 hours after going to bed i was woken up by my imac making a low tone noise every 5-8 seconds repeatedly. It wasn't the standard 3 beeps noise or anything. The computer wouldn't wake from sleep either. I just held the power button down on it and it turned off and i went to bed. This morning i turned the computer on and no screen came on at all just that low tone noise again repeating. Had to go to work so haven't had time to do any real troubleshooting. Tried goggling for answers but no luck. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. I think it might have something to do with the temperature sensor on the new hard drive not installed properly don't think it properly stuck to the drive. Thanks for any help.
and i seemed to have found my answer. "Yes, it will turn back on if you take care to put everything back properly. The 'beeps of death' made me think I broke my imac. It was actually just the hard drive thermometer not attached well." Will test this when i get home and see what happens. Didnt think you could use thermal paste for the temperature sensor but apparently you can.
