iMac memory question

I have a white 2.16 ghz core 2 duo iMac and want to max out the RAM and was wondering what the best configuration would be? I have been told 1 1GB and a 2GB is max but doing 2 matched 2 GB sticks. I was just wondering what everyone opinion is on this thanks!

2 2GB sticks (and only use 3.6 GB due to limitation of chipset) or the configuration you stated. I guess it really depends if one is cheaper for you.
