iMac Memory Slots - which one for one RAM stick?

I have a 24" iMac (fall 07) 2.8 Extreme. I put 2x2GB sticks in it when I got it and it has to go to Apple to have the HDD replaced, but in the event they find other problems, change the board, etc. I want to put the original 1GB it came with back in. I seem to remember that with only 1 slot filled, you have to use a specific slot of the 2 but I can't find anything on Apple's site or in the iMac book that came with it dictating which one if this is the case.

Does anyone know if these iMacs require a single stick in the left or right slot (when looking with the screen face down) or if it doesn't matter?
