I don't know if the display is simply at the end of it's life, or what the problem is, but after about 20 minutes of using the computer, the display flickers a little, and the right side of the screen dims down exponentially. If I shut it down overnight and start it up again the next day, the display will be back at normal brightness for about twenty minutes.

Also, whenever I use Photoshop or FCP, it occasionally has trouble performing basic functions. This all started happening in the last two months.

Is there a simple fix, or is this something I'd have to talk to Apple about? I am planning on upgrading in the near future, so I don't want to drop too much cash on a repair. Could this be faulty silicone that was common in Mac products released around this time?

Just looks like a faulty backlight tube. Solution would be a new display, which you're looking at around £300 ish if it's a 27".
