imac modem has quit working

I bought my grandmother a used 350 Mhz Blueberry slot loading imac so we could talk back and forth on ichat. Everything was going great. She learned quickly how to use it. Then the modem quits!!!! Darn it!!!

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? Is the modem easy to change in this model?

Would it just be easier to buy an external modem? If so, does anybody have any ideas what to buy?

I would replace it with an external if it were me.....just for the convenience
