My girlfriend has an imac g5 running panther, she was able to get a copy of tiger also for the g5 from her job. Is it possible to run this operating system on her imac. When i tried installing i got a kernel panic.
Her imac has a 1.6ghz power pc processor.
756mb ram
60 gigs of space left

When you say a copy of Tiger, is this a black disc with an X on the front of a gray disc that says Mac OS Install Disc 1? If its a gray disc, you should know that you can't use that with a different computer system. Were you even able to access the installer or did you get the kernel panic before seeing the language selection screen or the installer interface? System specs are not likely to be a factor in this case, you meet the minimum specs for Leopard, so its a non-issue whether it would run Tiger.

Also remember too that tiger also runs on Intel Macs as well. It is possible that copy is a Intel version or as said earlier a recovery disk for another mac.

The only way it would be an Intel copy of Tiger is if it was a restore disc for an Intel machine. Apple never sold retail Intel-compatible copies of Tiger.

My 10.4.6 disk will boot and install on Intel machines. I believe these disks are universal, so they will work on PPC or Intel.
