Hi all

Im currently ripping my DVD's to my imac HDD and NOT compressing them. Im just making them iso files and letting Plex play them.

Obviously the quality is superb but the file sizes are HUGE

does anyone compress their DVD rips on here? if so, whay program do you use and what settings?

I've tried ripping a DVD using handbrake to about 1GB size.. but the quality (on a 40" ) is very blocky!?

is there a perfect medium of settings out there that comprimises between file size and quality.

Id rather not have all my DVD rips at 6 - 9 GB

cheers

Handbrake works well. The easy way is you can use the built-in
presets in Handbrake. Just pick what console/device you are
playing your video on. Or enter the resolution, codec, and
bitrates manually. I don't think a 1 GB file will look good on a
40" screen. I like to set my bitrates instead of setting size
limitation. If you are playing the video off the computer, you
can try using the Normal Preset and just set the bitrate to at
least 1500 or 2000 to get decent quality.
