A while ago I upgraded the ram in my 24" iMac from 1GB (2 512mb sticks) to 2GB. The 512mb sticks have been laying around and I'm wondering if they can be used in an older Dell Latitude D800 notebook I have? That computer currently only has the 512mb of ram it came with, and I would love to upgrade it. It's got a 1.8ghz Pentium M processor. The overall specs I believe are here (damn thing weighs more than a 17" MBP).

The Ram from the iMac is a Hynix 2Rx16 PC2-5300S 512mb. Sorry I'm not too familiar with Ram, so any help would be appreciated!

No, it will not work. The specs say you need PC-2100 RAM, your iMac RAM is PC2-5300.

Out of interest I checked the specs. Nope... completely different ram spec

EDIT: what r.j.s said

So what is different between PC-2100 and PC2-5300? Is it the speed they run at? Wouldnt faster ram be backwards compatible with slower systems? Or would that work only with something like a PC-4400?
