I've got an Education iMac from 2009 on permanent loan from the school I work at and was looking into upgrading the RAM.

It is a Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz, currently with 2GB of DDR3

Officially the machine is meant to be able to accept up to 4GB RAM. However, I would like to put in as much as possible so started reading around and found from everymac.com that it could possibly take up to 8GB of RAM.

Does anyone have any info about this? I can't find anything else about the possibility of 8GB online.

Check out Mactracker. OWC also has good info.

It looks like the Early 2009 models take 8GB. The 20-inch Mid 2009 takes 4GB. The Late 2009 models take 16GB.
