Hey I have a Mid 2010 Imac 27"... I'm looking upgrade the RAM and I have the couple of questions.

1. Can I use multiple quantities of RAM.

I understand but could be wrong the Imac has 4 RAM slots, So lets say I went onto buy 2 4GB sticks (totally 8GB), and then put them in with the other 2 sticks I already have in the machine. The RAM I already have is 4GB so if yes this would make the total RAM 12GB.

2. Where is the best place to buy RAM from? Cheapest? UK based that is?

Lastly... Do I have to install in a certain way? I mean do I have to put them in order of size or something. O and actually do they have to be the same make?

Anything else I need to know?

Thanks in advanced

Also should say I will be running windows 8.1 via bootcamp

It's better for dual channel machines to have the same size memory but you don't have to do that.

When installing them, put the pairs horizontally. eg.

4 <----> 4
2 <----> 2

edit. here's a picture.

Also it's better to match CAS latency and frequency (MHz), as they will work as fast as the slower module. But again, you don't have to do that.

For your model, you just need to search for 1333 MHz DDR3(PC3-10600) SO-DIMM SDRAM.
If you are looking for the cheapest, eBay is your friend ;) Just search "imac 2010 ram"
