Imac Retina M290x vs M295X - External display and architecture software

External display won't make much of a difference. And whether there is any difference between the two, depends on what kind of software you're running, architecture or not. If the software uses the GPU for 3D, then the M295X will run faster. How much and whether it's worth it - it's hard to say.
Basically, both will run fine, so, buy the M295X if the difference in money is not too big for you, or buy M290X if you want to get better value. Both are good choices.
