Hello all!
I have a 2010 iMac, 27" which seems to have a screen problem. At first, I was thinking there was a power pack issue since the power button would not seem to awake it, then I got stuck in a long cycle of trying to reset PRAM, etc. After months of not using it, I plugged it in again and it came up long enough for me to log in and see it run through the full startup. Soon, though, the screen showed some errant vertical lines and then went black.
I wanted to try to shut it down with keystrokes rather than just turning it off because, I think I made it hard to troubleshoot before by not properly shutting down. Now it has been up for days, and I can access files by signing in to it from my MacBook Pro. (Yay! No data lost.)
I would like to ask advice on a way to either run a diagnostic over the network to verify what is actually the problem, or at least find a way to shut it down properly remotely. I had hoped to run an Apple Hardware test, but can't without seeing the screen. Of course, my ultimate goal is to have the 27" iMac fully restored. Please help. Thanks for your consideration!
