iMac Screen fails to come on

I have a iMac8,1 (early 2008) and the screen doesn't turn on and not able to run the AHT on it.

It also won't boot into target disk mode but it seems to load the OS because after a few mins it shows up under shared while connected via firewire.

Has anyone had this problem before?
