Hi,

Is it realistic for me to expect web pages and white backgrounds on my iMac's screen to appear as white as they do on my MPB's screen?

Or should I not be trying to compare a 13.3 inch screen to a 27 inch screen?

When I received my iMac a couple of weeks ago, and I opened up Safari for the first time, I noticed a yellow tint in the white backgrounds of the webpages I visited. I'm used to reading web pages on my MBP, on which web page backgrounds appear bright and white, so I quick to notice the duller appearance of web pages on my iMac.

I've since read a bunch of info about a yellow tint problem plaguing iMacs, and while the tint on my iMac isn't nearly as severe as what I'm seeing in some people's iMac pics (and the tint on my iMac is relatively uniforom throughout the display), I find myself wishing my iMac's screen looked more like my MBP's screen.

I could be wrong - and I don't claim to know a lot about technology - but I seem to recall reading that the size of the 27 inch iMac's screen demands a significant amount of backlighting to push light through the large display. So, if the demands of screens are size-specific, is it unrealistic to expect the characteristics of differenct sized displays to be equal?

...there is a pic posted on the first page of the main "yellow tint" thread, in which a yellow-tinted iMac is shown on the left-side of the picture, sitting next to a yellow-tint free iMac on the right-side of the picture. The yellow-tinted iMac's screen looks like my iMac's screen, while the yellow-tint-free iMac's screen looks like my MPB's screen. I realize I could be answering my initial question by looking at this pic, but I'd rather not reach a conclusion about what I should expect from an iMac screen after looking at a single picture.

(Both the Macs in the attached pics are set at maximum brightness, and the pics were taken using a cheap P&S.)

I went and looked at some iMac's in an Apple store, and their screens looked similar to my iMac's, so I don't know what conclusion I should reach.

I bought the iMac to use with photography, so I will be bothered by the yellow tint - unless the screen I have is as good as it gets, in which case I'll learn to live with it.

Thanks.
