Hello, a close friend of mine recently acquired a 24" iMac because it shuts down randomly after about ten minutes of being on, regardless of CPU load.

Specs:
Early 2009 24"
2.93GHz C2D
4GB
640GB
OS X 10.6.8
GeForce GT 120 256MB

According to Console, the only log within the time range of shutdown, says

SyncServer[184]
[111010] |DataManager|Warning| Resetting client com.apple.Dock since it has not synced since 2012-10-29 04:57:01 -700

Otherwise, I'm not seeing anything in Console that is even close to the time of shutdown. Also, when the iMac shuts off, it does so instantaneously, as if the power cord were unplugged, and is completely off. Neither hard drive nor fans spin.

Currently, we don't have internet at the office, so I can't download a temp monitoring utility at this time. Any suggestions as to troubleshooting steps I can take next time I'm here? I'd at least like to diagnose what's wrong with it, and if it's not too intense, I should be able to take care of the repair. Any help is greatly appreciated.
