iMac Software issues

hello, i bought my imac in late 2009 and it came with mac os x 10.5.8 and when i bough it they didnt have time to install the newly released snowleopard so they just stuck the disc in the box. when i tried to boot from disc it just goes to the screen with the apple logo and the moving circle loading thing for hours and hours, im almost positive it never stops. HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED
