I've been using my speakers through the headphone jack, but right next to the headphone jack on the back of the imac it looks like there is a speaker jack. When I plug into this jack my speakers don't work. Can I use that jack to connect my speakers. The headphone jack seems to not be very stable with my speaker plug and on itunes the sound comes in and out sometimes.

Thanks

Depending on your mac (or perhaps not), I think the jack next to the headphones is the 'line in'. Your headphones/speakers will not work through this jack.

Which iMac do you have? If you have an iMac G4 (sometimes referred to as the iLamp here), that jack is meant exclusively for the speakers that come with the iMac, and won't work with any other device. If not, then... I'm not sure what that jack is for.
