I have a 2010 27" iMac, and I'm interested in adding a SSD to it (keeping the regular HDD inside too). Obviously it is easy to buy an SSD...but I'm not confident I could handle the installation. Has anyone ever had a local computer shop perform this upgrade for them? I was thinking of calling Micro Center or Best Buy. I know OWC has their turnkey program, but I'm interested in doing it locally instead of shipping off my baby.

I'd smash my iMac with a brick before I'd take it off to Best Buy....

Does the Apple store do it? I think they might.

If you're anywhere near NYC I highly recommend TekServe.

Not near NYC, but thanks anyways.

Look for another AASP in your area. I have to agree with the comment about Best Buy, I don't have any experience with Micro Center's repair center however my dealings with their management and sales staff have been positive albeit that is pretty outdated at 5+ years. Call some AASPs and ask tough questions such as how many they have done, what SSD's they recommend and why, what their workmanship and product guarantee is etc.
