I have an imac 21.5 which I'm very pleased with and run windows Xp on it through Bootcamp. It's great but I find the noise at start up very irritating and wondered if there's a way of silencing it. Much appreciate some feedback on this matter.

I am with you and would like to know how to stop it. BUT, I bet Apple does not make it easy

Plug a headphone into the audio out. there are a number of threads about other options, but they involve things like setting the volume out completely before shutdown.
