iMac stuck on white loading screen [HELP]

Hey,

All of a sudden my iMac is getting stuck on the white loading screen.
I turn it on and get the chime, then the apple logo and loading circle appear but it just seems to get stuck on that!?

Does anyone know what the problem could be or any possible solutions please?

I really need to be working on the damn thing this week!

Do you have your computer's restore disks?

At home yes, unfortunately I'm looking after my sisters house for a fortnight and only have the bare essentials with me.

Well a fat load of good this place was, usually a little more helpful than this. However after fiddling around with the ram sticks it all seems to be booting up just fine now
