Hello,
I am looking for a 20 inch iMac to use for everyday tasks like email, music, and photos, as well as some adobe applications and final cut express. Would you recommend going with the 2.66ghz model with 2g of ram, or the 2.4ghz model with 4g of ram.
Thanks

I'd recommend waiting one month.

i agree...wait just a bit longer
the desktop line of macs are expected to be refreshed during macworld 09

i do the same things as you plus some gaming (light crysis, cs:s )
and my basemodel macbook pro does everything perfectly
i dont think that you would need 4gb of ram
i would go for the 20in 2.66 model

What new upgrades to the iMac?

Will the refreshed iMac be a lot better than the current models now? What improvements are they planning to add?

who knows but if you can wait you might as well as speed/memory will likely increase for the same price and the machine you are looking at will be cheaper. no certainty there will be any update soon.

When is the macworld

When do you expect the new models will be announced? Someone mentioned a macworld expo, when is that usually?

MacWorld San Francisco is from January 5th to 9th 2009.
The new iMacs will most likely be announced between those two dates.

If you NEED it now, get it now, if you can wait, then wait, see what the upgrades are, then this gen macs will be cheaper and you get a better bang for your buck

iMac

Okay,
What if I did not want to wait to buy a mac. Should I get the 2.4Ghz with 4gb of RAM or the 2.66Ghz with 2gb of RAM. I will mainly be using everyday apps, but maybe final cut express, and some adobe apps.

Thanks

I would recommend getting the 2.4Ghz with 4gb because there is almost no difference between 2.4 and 2.66. However, 2 more gb of ram will make a noticeable difference. But, I would not suggest getting ram from Apple. Get the 2.4 model, and buy ram third party and install it yourself. It is extremely easy to install ram in iMacs.

Get the 2.66 for the bigger hard drive and the better video card. You can buy 4Gb of ram cheap from the various vendors at any time, but you can't upgrade any of the things the 2.66 iMac has to offer (well, yes on the hard drive but it is a real hassle).
