iMac Target Display on Windows 8.1

I have a gaming machine that I want to connect up to my late 2009 iMac.

I have followed instructions to the T, however the iMac comes up as "generic PnP monitor" in Windows 8.1, the screen on the iMac is black for a little while, then reverts OSX (using command+F2, OSX 10.9.5). In Windows it is listed as "color LCD" but the properties cannot be changed.

Has anyone had any luck getting an iMac to target display under windows 8.1?

TDM isn't supported in Bootcamp

maybe some display drivers in windows or a tool can switch the resolution.

I'm guessing its a problem with Windows8.1 - this works in Windows7, and the imac essentially just becomes a displayport monitor.

Not aware of any display drivers for the iMac for Windows8.1

Turns out, it's the iMac. Late 2009 machines appear to be touch and go for use as displayport monitors.

Target Display Mode will only work on a 2009 iMac if it's a 27" and a Mini DisplayPort cable is used.

Yep. Thats the cable I'm using, tried another cable too. This iMac is faulty I guess (unless it's something to do with Mavericks, which I doubt). I'm just 6 years too late to fix it.
