I've had an iMac for about a year that still has Tiger on it and I am planning on buying a notebook which will obviously have Leopard. As far as transferring and sharing file back and forth will there be any type of real issues doing this? Will I need to upgrade my iMac to Leopard?

If you're just transferring files between the two, then no, I don't think you should encounter any problems. As far as I'm aware Tiger doesn't have the screen sharing features Leopard does though, so you may have to upgrade if you were planning on using that.
