does anyone know if you connect a smart tv to a iMac wirelessly

I have a load of movies on a hard drive connected to my mac,

if you can let me know

Smart TV's aren't all that smart, in order to wirelessly connect your iMac (assuming it is a 2011 or newer model) to your TV you also need to get an AppleTV ($69 new or $59 refurb) and turn on Airplay. You can also turn on Home Sharing in iTunes and assuming your movies are in iTunes then you can stream the movies to the TV via ATV. I do this all the time, I have about 700 movies stored on an EHD that is connected to my iMac, it works perfectly!

This setup will allow you to view anything that is on the iMac on the TV. It will not allow you to view anything that originates on the TV to the iMac.
