I've been trying to find out how to connect my iMac to my (ancient) tv. I've searched many forums including this one and cant seem to find a conclusion. I know (I think) that i have to connect the video and audio separately. I have the audio sorted (I think) but I'm very confused with the video. Am i right in thinking that the port to connect to a monitor can be used? But I cant find the right cable. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I cant find the answer I need.
Thanks

I take it your TV has a composite input? (yellow, white and red plugs)

I guess this should be accomplished in the same way I connected my 'old' MacBook (pre-MiniDisplayPort) to my television. And indeed, the sound and video should be separated.

This is how I did it:

Audio out on iMac > 3,5mm audio cable splitted (single to stereo, white and red) > to TV input (or SCART connector if you prefer that)

Mini-DVI to VGA or S-Video > S-Video to TV input (or SCART connector)
