iMac USB killing off iPhone?

Hi everyone :)

I've got iMac (Late 2009) and iPhone 3Gs 16GB (new) which I took out on contract around 10 months ago.

In the last 6 weeks I've gone through four iPhones, two of the four having a similar issue to do with it powering off and not waking, each time receiving a refurbished handset from Apple under warranty.

It was suggested that something in my iPhone's backup may have been causing the issue, so the last two handset have been setup as new in iTunes, with a fresh backup made.

This morning my newest refurbishment had lasted no longer than 5 hours, before the screen flickered and passed away. I've tried all the obvious methods of reviving this one and nothing seemed to work.

A couple of hours on the phone to Apple Care explaining my problem and they have agreed to send me out a brand new handset, rather than a refurbished one.

So here's the problem -

When taking my third handset into store, I bought along the dock cable, as it was my concern that a dodgy connection could have been causing the on going issue.

The Genius member of staff quickly batted this theory away, not even taking a look at the condition of the cable, stating that it would be fine.

My concern now is that maybe my iMac is killing off all my handsets?

Is there anyway of knowing / testing this?

Obviously I don't want to kill another handset / or anyone else's iPhone by testing it out!

All USB ports have been tested with reading & writing a pen drive = no issues found.

My iPod Nano has had no issues, using the same dock cable, even with 3rd party peripherals plugged in (printer, Logitech wireless mouse, external HDD)

Could anything on my iMac be causing the issues or have I just had bad run of dodgy replacements from Apple??

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

Can list all the specific issues I've had with each handset, didn't post them straight away so not to waffle on :D
