Hi,

The video card AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB in my 2011 27" imac has died:(

Quick questions, where can I buy a replacement and is it a diy job.

Thanks All

P.S. I live in the UK.

looking on ebay, I see a bunch of them, so yes, I'd say its possible.

Failed Graphics Card

Thank you for your replies everyone, really helpful.

I have contacted Apple and they have told me to take the Mac into one of their authorised dealers for assessment of the problem. So, hopefully it will be replaced under the recall programme.

Thanks again.

Paul.

You cannot replace the graphics card in an iMac. An iMac uses a mobile/laptop GPU, not a standard desktop one. So no, don't buy this because you won't be able to put it into the iMac.

I believe the GPU is on a daughter card that is replaceable.

This is not correct. The GPU is replaceable in this model, it's a MxM GPU mobile card in a daughter board. Many forum members have put GTX680 or even better in this machine.
