I'm intending to purchase a new computer: I'm moving jobs, and the payout from my old job will give me enough money to buy a shiny new Mac of some sort. The hard part: which one do I get? Putting aside the question of screen size, hard disk space and portability, the choice for me comes down to the iMac and the MBP.
At the moment, I don't know if the MBP is going to be useful for its portability. But, regardless, the effective cost of the two options comes out very similar - salary sacrifice in Australia brings the MBP down to $AU2099 (or so, edu) for the 15" 2.4 GHz model, compared with $AU1999 for the iMac. So the question comes down to technical specs.. in particular, the Radeon HD 2600 PRO versus the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (both with 256 MB of RAM.) I'm way out of touch; can anybody give me pointers on the relative merits of these two graphics systems, especially as it relates to use with Aperture? (Assume, for the sake of discussion, the attachment of an external display to either system so the relative merits of the screen don't come in to play.)
Yes, it's a very narrow brief. But it's the only sticking point in my decision right now.
Many thanks for all suggestions and comments.
