I am considering the purchase of a 2017 iMac. I am told it has never been registered and the seller has the receipt from 2019. If this is the case will the warranty still be valid? They are telling me the warranty will start from the day it is connected to the internet and automatically registered. I find this difficult to believe when it is nearly 5 years since build and 3 years since purchased.

Seller has receipt means it was previously purchased. Just because it was never registered is meaningless. The warranty starts when it was originally received after purchase. Skip this just look for a refurb with warranty on the Apple store if you need a older model discounted, or by a another Apple retailer that offers a warranty.

For peace of mind, I'd seriously consider a refurb from Apple:
One year warranty, same as new plus you can purchase Apple Care if you desire.
