ifixit's teardown shows the new iMac with Retina display has a Intel NB430029A00200 Platform Controller Hub installed. What is that? Is it possible that Apple upgrade iMac with the latest Intel Z97 chipset?

No, the PCH is soldered to the logic board I'm afraid, and is likely customised for that particular board and Apple's specifications. You won't be able to change it.

Thanks, but I was asking whether Apple has updated the chipset, not that I want to upgrade myself.
