I just got an imac and use the option to restore from my MacBookPro Time machine Backup.
When I restart the machine after the restoration, it won't boot pass the grey apple logo

any ideas why i'm not able to boot up from my restored high drive

How, exactly, did you restore your data from TM? If you restored data files and applications only (i.e. not system files, by using Migration Assistant, which does this for you) the problem you're having should not happen. On the other hand, if you restored the System folder from the MacBook too, overwriting the one there... I'm not at all surprised that your Mac no longer boots. Mac OS X installs only the files needed by a specific Mac, even if the disc contains files for every Mac.

Thanks
Problem solved, I had to reinstall OSX, now I'm able to boot up my machine and access all my stuff from the MBP on the imac
now i need to set up my network
