I have a pretty old iMac, and it won't let me sign in. I read some other forums and did what they said to do for some regular macs but I don't know if there's something else I can try. I have a work deadline and I really need to use it tonight /:

What version of the OS does it have on it? What do you mean by signing in? Entering Login & Password?
I enter my password and it acts like its about to sign in and then asks me for the password again. I'm not sure what OS I have /:

You can try starting it up in Safe Mode. If it isn't too late:-(
Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

  1. Start or restart your Mac.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
If that doesn't work, and you have the system discs, start up using the main disc and holding the C key or the Option key and change the password. After trying those, it will no doubt take someone else to look at it who knows more about Macs like the Apple Store.
