ok. here's my computer specs:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B09
I have Leopard 10.5.7 installed and these problems have been going on for almost a week now.
I go to click shut down from the apple menu, the little gray circle thingy appears and it just stays there. I have to do a hard shutdown to turn off the computer.
It doesn't freeze, as the little gray jawns keeps 'circling.'
Conversely, I've run into problems when I've tried downloading the new Quicktime and Safari that were released this week (via Software Update).
I ended up getting Quicktime installed by actually d/ling it from Apple's site and trashing the previous version.
Tried this with Safari, but didn't work.
In fact, when I try and d/l Safari 4 it tells me at the destination section of the install screen that my hard drive doesn't "meet the requirements for this update." And it most certainly does.
Wondering if the update install and the computer not shutting down are connected in some way.
I've tried doing the disk repair/permissions thing, tried disconnected all USB and Firewire jawns, reset PRAM or PRAN or whatever the **** it is.
yeesh.
Sorry if I sound ticked, but this is really getting to me and the last thing I wanna do is have to clean out the whole system as I have a buttload of programs that are going to be a pain to re-install.
any help would be appreciated.
oh, and what exactly is archive and install? thats one option I haven't done yet as I'm not sure what it is, per say. Could any explain it to me as if you we're talking to a 12 year old? haha
anyway, thanks again.
