Hello,
I've got a iMac mid-2011 i5 with 16gb ram. I've been upgrading so it has:
2*2g ram (the stock ram in dual channel mode I imagine)
1*4g ram (I added it)
1*8g ram (again i added it)
The usage is net/movies/iphoto/amatour-lightroom/ programming (c/java/python lot's of IDE's etc, light gamming: Civ5, dota2, etc), 1/2 Linux virtual machines (virtualBox) so I'd say it's a work intensive iMac.
In a talk with some colleagues I've been told that dual channel it's REALLY noticeable on daily tasks, specially programming and heavy IDE.
So the question:
If i swap my 4g dim for another 8g dim (like the other I have) it'll work on dual-channel, but will I notice any advantages? (appart from 16g to 20g of ram)
PS:
Yes, I know, SSD, but it's on it's way already
