For some reason, and this seemed to start after I got a new external HDD, when I use import images from my camera to the external HDD where I keep my library, my wife is unable to access them via her OS X login. Both accounts are admin accounts. I have to manually go change permissions in the group of images so she can look at them. She can see the files are there, but they're unavailable to her otherwise.

Any thoughts?

Select the external drive in Finder then his command-i to get info and in the lower left select the “Ignore ownership on this volume” checkbox. That will turn off permissions for entire drive and should allow you both to access the photos.

That option doesn't seem to exist in El Capitan... :/

It does exist.

What is the format of your external HD ?

I just use it to backup my images, music, etc. I export from my card to the appropriate folder there, and then import with lightroom. The option is not there when I follow the directions above.
