Images don't load in Safari OR Firefox

I just bought my first Mac (2.2 GHz Macbook). I'm really happy, except for the fact that images don't load in many of the websites when using Safari or Firefox. Please help. And yes, I have tried all the obvious things in Preferences.. Thanks for any help in advance

no.. that's a good point. i also just set up my wireless network at home for the first time. is there anything obvious i should be looking for?

my first thought is that your connection maybe slow. or other connection problems.....

I came across a similar thread however he never mentioned if he got the problem resolved.
