IMAP and Apple Mail

I am ahving a problem with IMAP in mail. First of All I've been using POP since forever now but today decided to switch to IMAP upon advice from someone. only problem is that Apple mail is now downloading every single one of my emails and I can only imagine how much bandwidth this is using. Is there a solution for this?

Oh and I'm using Gmail.

It's probably trying to cache them. I wouldn't worry, it should happen only once.

this only does it the first time you connect.

it just downloads the headers right? Can I set mail to download entire messages? Or is it once a new message is received it is saved completely and not just cached.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you want, but.. on the account preferance tab, select the imap server you want to change the behavior and...
