I have an IMAP Gmail account and when I set up an account with Outlook 2011, it retrieves every single email I've received in existence on that gmail address (20,000+).
I'm the type of user who will close the window of outlook (x button, or apple + w), and I've noticed that when I re-open outlook, it will say 'updating' while it retrieves all my emails. Back when I used to use entourage 2008, it would open instantly with all my emails there, but not anymore.
Is there any way to make outlook not import, say, the first 19,000 emails I have in my inbox, and only import the first couple thousand and future incoming emails? I'm pretty sure the 'updating' lag is a result of it trying to fetch all 20,000+ emails.
Edit: I'm also consistently getting this error: Some messages could not be FETCHed (Failure).
How do I go about resolving this? It seems as if outlook is trying to import my past emails (I just set up an account again, so it's in the process of downloading all my emails, which I don't want) and is getting stuck, or having trouble, with a certain email(s).
Thanks.
