Carrier IMEI and Serial No.

Can someone actually do something with it if you accidentally reveal it? If nothing can be done, why are people masking their IMEI no.?

I don't think they can do anything with the imei but with scammers these days finding creative ways to scam, it just makes me feel better not to show it. To me it's like revealing the social security number of the phone lol.
