Wouldn't it be cool if, like facetime, there was a mac integration?

i do believe they're gonna merge iMessage and iChat, if not iChat, iMessage and FaceTime alltogether.

being able to 'text' my girlfriend (who owns an iPhone ofcourse) right from my Macbook would be amazing

I definitely agree. I have been looking for a simple solution to text from a computer for quite sometime. I don't think there is, hopefully Apple will integrate it to ichat or some other way.

this would be cool. maybe it will come in the next lion developer preview now that iOS has been shown. if we request it on their feedback site they very well might do that. if not, we might have to wait until the next big mac os release for it be incorporated unless they make a separate mac app store app.

I hope they do and think it makes a lot of sense. iChat is certainly a better name than iMessage. However, I am not sure Apple will want to integrate the all the IM chat baggage iChat currently possesses and certainly people will complain if suddenly Yahoo chat support is yanked from the new iOS/Mac iChat.

I really wish this was true. So far there have been no prompts for this integration or Windows Facetime. Facetime overall has been kinda spotty for me. I'm starting to think I shouldn't switch off of Skype since it has all the above messaging capabilities and good video conferencing from iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

As per the Keynote on Monday, Lion will bring Push Notification Services to the Mac, and that iMessages depend on Push Notification Services. It won't be too long before we get iMessages on the Mac.

I'm positive it'll be on the Mac eventually. I wish they'd make iChat for iPhone, but I guess aim is usable via their own app.
