Hi guys

I can't see that this particular query is on the forum, so here we go.

My wife and I share an iTunes account. On iOS 5 we use our personal emails for iMessage and this causes no problems at all - we both use iMessage independently. My email is also the iTunes account, her email is non-iTunes.

Is this still possible on iOS 6 what with the integration of the iTunes account and phone number?

Thank you

Yes, you can still set different Apple Id for messages/facetime, and different one for purchases. Phone number is being associated with your messages iTunes account.

iOS6 just gets better! Or at least doesn't get any worse! Thanks Danindub, mind at ease.:D

Just curious but why are you sharing an iTunes account? You do know that you can share anything bought from iTunes using Home Sharing, right? Yes, even iOS apps. And in iOS6, you don't even have to use the password to update apps anymore.

You can share apps?? I did not know that! That is the main reason at the moment. The situation has just evolved from years ago. It's a situation that needs fixing though. Not least because you can only have one name per account with Siri!

We share music too. Is that a problem? I need to look at this.

no issue with music, music is no longer DRM protected and hasnt been in years.

You can share apps, music, tv shows, books, movies, and anything else purchased through iTunes. No point in shared iTunes accounts anymore. Especially with all its downsides.

But you have to be at home, right? If you were out and downloaded a game or song or something, then you would have to wait to sync?

No. Sign into the App Store using your partner's iTunes username and password and just download it again for free.
I wouldn't do that if I where you. This what happens.

With Home Sharing, you don't have to sync. You just drag and drop or select and import. Of course you can't do it when you aren't on the same Wifi network but I don't often find I need an app my wife downloaded when I'm out. But maybe that's just me.

Also, with music purchased from iTunes you can set it to automatically download purchases made by others on the Home Sharing account.
