iMessage audio quality

Hi! So here is the main reason why I cant rely completely on iMessage and ditch whatsapp: audio messages quality.

Is it just me, or the quality of audio messages vs whatsapp's (for example) is very bad?

Audio imessages sound bad, like the voice is far away, just terrible quality.
Whatsapp audio in comparison sound crisp and very good.

Is there a fix for this? Are you experiencing the same? i cant find enough info on this.

I had this problem since ios8 and it is still a problem in ios 10
