I have a friend who has an iPhone but does not always has data or wifi my messages are always sent as blue iMessages and not converted to SMS and she does not get them for a big delay

Doing some googling it looked like a bug in 2012 and 2013 based on the posts I found is this still a bug? Or just a coincidence it's happening to me

Also her replies are grey bubble and say text message above it

Have them turn off iMessage and then turn it back on.

You do know that you will only see the Blue bubble if sending to iOS devices and Macs.

Check the settings on the iPhone. Make sure the main number is selected. Also, if you want to receive messages over wifi, make sure the iCloud account or Mac account is entered.

I don't think there is a bug, more so that it needs to be reset. This iMessage reminds me of a Yahoo Messenger or AOL Chat. Text messages are through your carrier and not necessarily an iMessage thing.
