iMessage delays...

I've noticed on my iphone 4 with iOS 6 and the latest updates sending texts to iOS devices and even non-iOS devices theres frequently a delay in sending a message it will get all the way to the end and then just sit there, if i need to reply it will queue up the messages.

is this an iOS issue? carrier? seems rather flakey compared to iOS 5

I've noticed this too with iMessage recently, but the past several days it has been better. I haven't taken the time to formally try and troubleshoot the cause, but I did serious consider just turning iMessage off (regular SMS has been fine).
