My iOS 11 iPhone SE iMessage app does not allow me to reply to my sons Android Note cell phone text messages. I get his message, but iMessage fails to send the reply to his android phone. What can we do for replies to work w THE DARK SIDE?

Ok, ok, we figured it out.
1. Do not know if one must close imessage or not first.
2. Reopened iMessage later, opened the old conversation. Clicked on the red "i" next to the refused reply, was asked: do I want to send the reply, I clicked yes, or clicked send, whichever it is. The message flew out, bam. We were able to continue a conversation back and forth with no interference.
3. Not sure if I will have to do this on each conversation w android, or only one time in iOS11.

Should not have to do that ever.

Might have ran into a temporary network outage/glitch/loss of signal.

Make sure Settings > Message > Send as SMS is toggled on.

Standard disclaimer: works on my iPhone when sending to others' Androids.

Both me on my SE and my daughter on an iPhone8 have received this rejection when texting her brother on android recently. I just figured out how to overcome though. Will check the SMS settings though. Thanks

Did he change from an iPhone without deactivating iMessage?

I have a feeling that we need to know the procedure to go from apple to android. My daughter and I like Apple. He wanted to try Android again after 4 years w Apple. What should he have done to his previous Apple phone before he switched, as far as apps, settings, etc.?

I have trouble with some of my android contacts, but not with all. One contact in particular gives me the (i) symbol about half the time. So frustrating texting with him. And yes my SMS toggle has been on forever. Occasionally I'll immediately resend and it goes through, other times I'll resend numerous times unsuccessfully until I give up. And my favorite is when I keep resending based on the "failed send" error message, and the recipient notifies me that I've sent the same message numerous times. o_O Not much rhyme or reason to it; although I barely had a fraction of these failed messages when I was on android phones. Come to think of it, they were rare enough that I don't really remember them at all, although I'm sure there had to be some...

Try telling the folk's you know that moved to android from Apple, to visit the above link. They have to sign out of iMessage, whether they have the iPhone still or not.

Yeah, we saw this answer above.

The problem does not only occur with iPhone to Android switchers, as it doesn't in my case.
