Following the launch of iOS 8.1.1 and OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, it appears that Apple's servers are having some issues with iMessage. Multiple users on Twitter and other social networking platforms are reporting that iMessage is down, and MacRumors has confirmed that some messages appear to be hanging for quite some time before sending, while others are simply not delivered.

Currently, Apple's System Status page is not reporting any iMessage outages, and some users appear to be experiencing no issues at all.

The iMessage issue is not a result of the iOS 8.1.1 update, as users who have yet to update are also reporting problems. The outage is likely to be temporary, with service restored shortly.

Update: Apple has documented the outage, which affected "some" iMessage users, on its System Status page. The outage lasted roughly 90 minutes and was fixed by 11:30 AM Pacific Time.

Ive been having issues, I was hoping it was just me.

Curious how many people aren't going to read the article and jump to put the blame on the software update. Multiple, if this were on the front page.

Boy, Apple's System Status page is sure useless.

I don't think I've ever seen it report an outage, even when there was one.

"We at Apple deny any and all outages that may or may not actually be occurring"

Having the same problem. Just started for me about 5 minutes ago. Messages are hanging halfway thru sending. I have had no success sending any imessages at all, even after waiting. :apple::apple:

I have just tried to send multiple iMessages from my iPhone 6 on 8.1. None of them went through. So I would say its pretty same to update to 8.1.1

Unable to send on my iPhone 4S with 8.1, did not try the update yet as I am jailbroken.

Also not working on iPad Air with 8.1 not jailbroken

Yeah i have never seen an outage there. The thing must be wired to a fish tank somewhere.

How closely do you follow the status page?
I do loosely and I've seen some things on there already.

I remember very well when not too long ago a plethora of services were reported as down/partially down.
Could have printed out the page and handcrafted little traffic lights for your Lego city from the cutouts.

Well my issue is different. When I iMessage a specific person pictures it will say not delivered but when I ask that person if they got the pics they said yes. It only happens when I iMessage that person. I had her restart her phone, turn iMessage off and on again and same problem. Later she told me it happens to everyone who messages her or whomever she messages. The pictures go through but it says it's not delivered so there is no real way of me knowing it went through unless I ask.

I don't know about fixed. Still can't receive iMessages on iPhone and iPad and can send from only the iPad.

I've been having iMessage problems since iOS 8, where the sent status is stuck at 50%. I have to reset phone, then watch as Messages launches and hangs as it takes me to a new compose window before I can back out slowly and navigate to the person I'm having a convo with and try to resend the message.
