nope. iMessage is IOS5 and the iPod touch 4g stopped receiving updates and 4.2.2
Maybe using a JB. Why would you not just use text plus then?

Not quite. The iPod Touch 2G stopped at 4.2.1. The 4G is still able to run the current iOS firmware.

There is no 5th generation iPod Touch. The latest iPod Touches are the white and black iPod Touch 4th Generations with 8, 32 and 64 GB capacities.

Nope and to my knowledge it isn't possible to run iOS5 on ipod touch 2nd gen.

just use a different app like imessage. my choice would be textfree with voice. Its like imessage, you can text people with wifi.
